Description
This painting evolved while I was porch sitting. The sunlight was shining on the faded white wall with Linda's plants and I noticed that she had placed an empty bottle on a rock. The light and shade inspired me to paint what I was seeing and of course the creative part of me started to to charge. It had to start asking questions after questions, such as, "What do the bottles mean symbolically?" Well, I answered emptiness, empty promises and so forth. Then I got distracted by the birds at the feeder and their shadows on the ground, which led me to think about "Shadowy People" that do their work behind our backs. I started the painting. The next morning while having coffee, Linda said to look down, it was a tarantula. Linda grabbed her camera and I grabbed the fly swatter, not for what you think! I let him crawl onto it and walked it to the woods. He now became part of the work to symbolize the fear that many play into. On the upper left-side of the painting, there was a black square until the concept of an alarm clock with an eye instead of hands to represent waking up. For me, it's not about painting what I originally saw, but what I saw and to paint the experience.
